fonts.codes

A specimen library on an infinite canvas: 1,657 typefaces, read like pages, not rows.

The fonts.codes canvas: dark specimen cards for typefaces including Varela, Clash Display, Fraunces, and Lobster, each set in its own face with designer and year.

Type, read like
it deserves.

fonts.codes is the fourth release of the .codes imprint: a curated specimen library carrying the full Google Fonts and Fontshare catalogs, 1,657 typefaces in all. Font pickers treat type as rows in a dropdown. fonts.codes treats every face like a page out of a specimen book.

The canvas is the catalog: an infinite, draggable wall of specimen cards, each one set in its own face with designer, year, and category. Pinch out to survey the landscape of type, click any card to open its specimen.

JDP Studio designed and built it end to end on a static-first architecture: Astro pages with React islands only where the interaction lives, so a library of 1,657 faces still opens instantly.

What
shipped.

01

The catalog as a canvas.

Specimen cards on an infinite drag, scroll, pinch surface. Each card is set in its own typeface and carries the record: designer, year, category. Surveying a thousand faces stops feeling like paging through search results and starts feeling like walking a plan chest.

02

Specimens, not listings.

A face gets a stage. Fraunces opens on an Oscar Wilde epigram set full-bleed in the type itself, then the record: name, designer, year, category, license, with save, share, and download one keystroke away. The typeface makes its own argument.

The fonts.codes catalog listing typefaces alphabetically, each linking to its own specimen page.
03

Every face, findable.

Behind the canvas sits the full catalog: 1,657 typefaces from Google Fonts and Fontshare, each with a permanent specimen URL. Browse the wall when you want to wander, use the catalog when you know what you came for.

The small
things.

Set in itself

Every card and every specimen renders in the face it describes. The library never tells you what a typeface looks like; it shows you, at size.

Static-first by conviction

Astro ships the library as instant HTML; React islands hydrate only the canvas and controls. A catalog this size has no business being slow.

No. 04 of the imprint

fonts.codes joins colors.codes, snippets.codes, and quotes.codes in the .codes family. Type, color, and language: the three primitives of designed communication, each with its own editorial home.
